Paul Omo Mukairu has revealed that Manchester City legend Vincent Kompany convinced him to choose Anderlecht ahead of a slew of offers from clubs in Germany, Italy and Belgium.
The 20-year-old forward got off to a flying start to life at Anderlecht by conjuring the match winner against Antwerp last Sunday.
“I had many choices”, Mukairu told Le Soir. “Anderlecht appealed the most to me, especially because of Vincent Kompany.
“He is a big name in European football. He gives me a lot of confidence and encourages me to work.
“Anderlecht are also known all over the world.”
Another top star, world champion with Germany and former Arsenal star Lukas Podolski, was among the first to congratulate Mukairu after his historic Anderlecht debut.
“He already congratulated me on my goal,” he revealed.
“I played with him at Antalyaspor last season. Despite his incredible track record, he immediately took me under his wings. He saw me as a little brother, he is not arrogant. We have kept in touch.”
