Club Brugge may have got off to a 4-1 home win over Waasland-Beveren, but there was controversy over whether VAR was wrong in awarding Emmanuel Dennis what was widely regarded a soft penalty.
Most fans said it should not have been a penalty from which the champions went in front because Dennis was not fouled.
“Didn’t seem a penalty,” tweeted Jurgen Vertongen.
“No penalty for me,” added Serge Rcqr.
The Beveren coach, Nicky Hayen, admitted, it defined the outcome of the encounter.
“The game had not yet started, but we were already 1-0 behind after a penalty. Too often things like that that already decide our game,” he lamented.
