IFK Gothenburg coach Poya Asbaghi has admitted he will be sad to lose Alhassan Yusuf to a bigger club, but at the same time he said it will not be proper to stand in the way of the midfielder’s progress.
Yusuf, 19, has been on the radar of Premier League clubs Sheffield United and Wolverhampton Wanderers, who tabled a bid believed to be around seven million Euros for him last year.
And SCORENigeria has reported that Ajax and Danish club FC Copenhagen have been monitoring the versatile midfielder at his Swedish club.
The former FC Hearts star, who was named Sweden’s Young Player of 2019, has been rewarded with an improved contract that will now run till 2024.
His coach said the club will be sad to see him leave.
“Obviously, I like Alhassan. He is a very good football player. We have become close,” Asbaghi told the Football Channel.
“But then (transfer) is part of football. If the players do well, we risk losing them. You get to the day that there is joy that we as a club have done something good and that the player is allowed to move on to a place that hopefully develops him even more.
“It will be sad, but it is part of the football and in the end it is something that we really want although it will feel empty at first.”
