Kylian Mbappe was leading in the votes for the 2026 Ballon d’Or before Harry Kane staged a late fightback to win the prestigious award.
Harry Kane was crowned winner of the 2026 Ballon d’Or in London Monday night
However, one of the organisers of the annual award, France Football editor-in-chief Vincent Garcia revealed just how close it was between Mbappe and Kane.
The French newspaper’s editor-in-chief, Vincent Garcia, revealed after the ceremony how close the voting was.
“You will find everything about the vote in France Football on Saturday, but what I can say is that the distance in points between Harry Kane and Kylian Mbappé is smaller than between Rodri and Vinícius Jr in 2024,” he said.
“It was 41 points then and even that was not enough.”
