The most experienced international in Russia for Tuesday’s friendly will be Moses Simon and he will be expected to lead the team in the absence of Wilfred Ndidi.
Ndidi has withdrawn from the friendly to head back to his Turkish club Besiktas.
Moses Simon was one of the players who jetted out of Abuja Thursday night for Moscow, Eagles spokesman Promise Eforghe said.
The Paris FC winger won his 101th cap as a second-half in Guinea Bissau in a 2027 AFCON qualifier.
He was also a sub in the other AFCON qualifier against Madagascar in Uyo, where he won his milestone 100th cap to join an elite club of players like Ahmed Musa and Vincent Enyeama who have done so.
Chibuzor Atata and Jacob Adeoye from Ikorodu City as well as Kenneth Igboke of Enugu Rangers also made the trip.
It will be a largely experimental Super Eagles against Russia on Tuesday as coach Eric Chelle plans to cap several young players ahead of next month’s U23 AFCON qualifiers leading to the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
Kelechi Iheanacho, who is the leading scorer in the Turkish second division with 11 goals thus far, will also get a second chance to stake a claim for a Super Eagles shirt after he has been overlooked for several months.
