The bad pitch at the 24 September in Bissau is a big concern for both the Super Eagles and hosts Guinea Bissau ahead of today’s crucial 2027 AFCON qualifier.
Coach Eric Chelle could only say that he does not wish to dwell on the terrible playing surface, while Guinea Bissau star Jefferson Encada admitted that even the home team do not like to play on this pitch.
“We don’t wanna play here. We don’t like the pitch,” he said pointedly.
Football pitch expert and owner of Monimichelle Sports facility construction company, Ebi Egbe, said the pitch is of “great concern” and the Super Eagles, who are used to playing at standard grounds for their clubs will now have to “muscle it out” today.
“The Super Eagles are built around players accustomed to fast, technical and precision football. On a poor or inconsistent surface, that style can be severely compromised.
“Instead of fluid football, the players may be forced into a different kind of game, more physical, more direct and more about surviving the conditions.
“They may have to muscle it out.”
