It has been tough going for Tobias Lawal in his first season in Belgium, but the goalkeeper has said he is experienced enough to take the knocks in his strides.
Lawal, who was eligible to play for the Super Eagles before he opted for Austria, was questioned, including after the match against Zulte Waregem.
“Oh well, that’s the life of a goalkeeper,” Lawal told Het Belang Van Limburg.
“Every goal is scrutinized. I’ve been around long enough to live with that. Even though it was quite harsh after Waregem, I can understand the criticism. Everyone has the right to their own opinion.”
Genk languish in 11th place on the table, just three points above the relegation zone.
Lawal said he is happy to be given his chance by coach Nicky Hayen.
“My first half of the season at Genk wasn’t the easiest. That’s mainly due to the injury I sustained. I understand why we took our time to recover afterward. Hendrik Van Crombrugge did well, while it was important that I could return to my best,” he said.
