Benin will now shift their focus to the 2025 AFCON in Morocco in December after they failed to make history by qualifying for their first-ever World Cup.
The Cheetahs of Benin were bashed 4-0 by the Super Eagles in Uyo Tuesday to end their dream of playing at the 2026 World Cup.
Star midfielder Junior Olaitan, who has Nigerian roots, said they were disappointed they could not make their dream a reality.
“We have disappointed the people of our dear country, but we will never disappoint them forever. Things will get better,” the Goztepe midfielder vowed.
“We will learn from our mistakes. Proud of this team! Keep your heads up, guys, let’s focus now on the next Africa Cup of Nations.”
