Super Eagles hopes of qualifying for the 2026 World Cup may have suffered a big blow after No 1 goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali was stretchered off after he was injured in action for his South African club.
Nwabali was taken off in a stretcher in the 35th minute of Chippa United PSL match against Richards Bay.
The extent of the injury could not be immediately ascertained, but it looked serious that he had to be helped out of the pitch.
The Chippa United captain has been Nigeria’s No 1 goalkeeper since the delayed 2023 AFCON last year, where he shone as the Super Eagles went all the way to the final.
He has been called up for next month’s crucial World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and South Africa.
The Super Eagles will report in Uyo Monday.
