Coach Aliyu Zubairu has said he will have a formidable Flying Eagles for the U20 AFCON in April with the return of some of the players from last year’s WAFU triumph as well as inclusion of new players.
WAFU B championship winners like Kparobo Arierhi and Charles Agada were not part of the team for this week’s playing tour of Cote d’Ivoire as they have transferred to Europe.
Coach Zubairu said he will invite some players from the NPFL as well as foreign pros when the team regroup after a short break.
“When we regroup some foreign-based players will as well as some players we scouted in Nigeria will join to get a formidable team,” the coach said.
“Four of our players from WAFU like Kparobo and the rest are part of the team will certainly come back.
“We’re on course.”
The Flying Eagles are drawn in ‘Group of Death’ of the 2025 U20 AFCON in Cote d’Ivoire alongside Morocco, Egypt and South Africa.
The tournament kicks off April 26.
