The heat is truly on the Super Eagles at the 2023 AFCON after Equatorial Guinea thrashed Guinea Bissau 4-2 to throw wide open Group A today.
Equatorial Guinea have thus shot to the top of the group with four points after their confidence-boosting 1-1 draw with star-studded Nigeria at the weekend.
The big win has further boosted the chances of Equatorial Guinea of reaching the Round of 16 now with a healthy goals difference of +2.
In the 2021 tournament, they reached the quarterfinal.
Today, Skipper Emilio Nsue grabbed a historic hat-trick to sink The Wild Dogs of Guinea Bissau.
It was the first treble since the 2008 AFCON.
The Super Eagles will now hope they can avoid defeat later today against hosts Cote d’Ivoire to stay in contention for a place in the knockout rounds.
A loss today to the Elephants of Cote d’Ivoire will put more pressure on the three-time African champions, but it will not essentially eliminate them from the tournament.
Then it will go down Monday evening to a final group game against bottom team Guinea Bissau, who are pointless after two rounds of matches.
