The NFF have been handed a February 2022 deadline by the Government to fire coach Gernot Rohr, according to a report by Sporting Life.
Speculations are still rife about the future of Rohr and by this deadline, the Franco-German coach could still be the man to lead the country to the AFCON next month.
Rohr himself has not ruled himself out of leading the Eagles.
The Government has now directed the NFF to send a letter of complaint to Rohr, warning of his unsatisfactory performance of developing the local game and players.
It also ordered a re-organisation of the Eagles coaching crew and the appointment of a technical support group led by former internationals like Austin Okocha and Nwankwo Kanu.
This comes as NFF technical department chief Austin Eguavoen has now emerged as the man to take temporary charge of the national team.
Enyimba coach Finidi George has also been mentioned in the new arrangement.
Eagles chief scout Tunde Adelakun, who is based in London, should be removed with immediate effect, while assistant coach Salisu Yusuf could still play a part in the new setup but on the proviso that he does not sit on the team’s bench after serving out a year’s ban for receiving cash from undercover journalists posing as agents.
The delayed 2021 AFCON is now four weeks away as it kicks off January 9 with Nigeria opening their campaign two days later in Garoua against seven-time winners Egypt.
