Odion Ighalo has insisted he will not rush a decision to return to the Super Eagles even after coach Gernot Rohr threw open the doors of the team to him.
Ighalo quit international football soon after he was crowned Goal King at the 2019 AFCON in Egypt.
But in recent days, Rohr has come out to say he would very much want Ighalo back to the national team because he offers leadership, experience and goals to his young team.
Rohr has even named the leading scorer in the Saudi Arabian league on a provisional squad for next month’s World Cup qualifiers against Liberia and Cape Verde.
“Talks have been going on for a while now, and I respect the coach and the NFF president,” Ighalo told the BBC.
“But it’s still an ongoing talk and it’s not something I have to rush.”
Those opposed to Ighalo return argue that the country is blessed with younger attacking options, who are also proving their mettle across Europe.
