Ike Ugbo has spoken glowingly about his transfer to Genk just as he could make his debut in tomorrow’s home game against Anderlecht.
Ugbo, 22, has signed a permanent deal with Genk from Premier League club Chelsea.
Last season, he scored 17 goals to ensure Cercle Brugge stayed up in the Belgian top league.
“From the first moment that I heard about the Genk interest, I knew that this club was the right choice,” the young striker told HLN.
“It took a while for the transfer to be finalised, but I was never really worried.
“If you look at the players that Genk has developed over the years, this will be a great learning experience for me.”
He further said: “You should not forget that I only played at the highest level at Cercle Brugge last year.
“That is why I am convinced that this is the ideal step. I played against Genk twice last year and was very impressed.
“They are a team that create a lot of chances and it must be my job to finish them.”
He described himself as goal getter.
“Who am I comparing myself to? Edinson Cavani. A striker who can score easily in one time, but who sometimes also needs just half a chance to be effective,” Ugbo said.
He could now make his debut tomorrow after he was named on the squad along with fellow Nigeria strikers Paul Onuachu and Cyriel Dessers.
