Genk are top of the Belgian Jupiler Pro League, but they will struggle if they now have to sell striker Tolu Arokodare next month, according to former Club Brugge coach Hein Vanhaezebrouck.
Arokodare has overcome a lot of criticisms and doubts to now be one of the league’s leading with 11 goals.
His goals have been crucial for Genk, but even more important is that the club have built their play around him and that will be why they will struggle in his absence.
“Last year everyone had doubts. ‘Clumsy’, they called him, but now he is consistent and dangerous. He keeps defenders at bay, lays off balls, and his confidence has grown enormously,” Vanhaezebrouck told Het Nieuwsblad
“The difference with last season is night and day.
“If Tolu is out, I fear for Genk. He is so strong and playable, defenders can barely get him under control.”
He added: “From day one he (Genk coach Thorsten Fink) said he had the best striker in the league. I wondered what he meant, but he was right.
“Genk will earn a lot of money from Tolu, although it would be a big loss if he left in the winter.”
