Cyriel Dessers red-hot form at Feyenoord has raised serious questions as to whether Genk gave him a decent chance before they shipped him out this season on loan to the Dutch giants.
The striker has come off the bench several times to snatch the match winner for Feyenoord already.
And expert Tom Soetaers said he is not surprised, but Dessers ought to have been given more opportunities by Genk for him to succeed in Belgium.
“There (at Genk) he was outshone by Onuachu. A tough competitor, that’s true. But he was too accommodating. When Genk signed (Ike) Ugbo at the end of last season, he already saw himself becoming third striker. Then it was easy for a club to push you aside,” argued Soataers.
“And I think he can do more than Ugbo.”

He has also said Dessers can be starter at Feyenoord and not the ‘Super Sub’ he is currently.
“He cannot be satisfied with being a super sub,” he said.
“In my view, he has the qualities to be first choice and he can also express that ambition.
“For a striker, I do not find it flattering to be called Super Sub,”
Feyenoord have the option to sign Dessers at the end of the season.
