Senior officials of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) have boasted “we own the courts in Nigeria” after the FCT High Court today denied EFCC from amending its charges to join president Amaju Pinnick and general secretary Mohammed Sanusi in the alleged theft of $10 million FIFA grant to Nigeria.
Justice Peter Affen refused the application to join Pinnick and Sanusi in the corruption trial that has already seen three NFF accounts staffers arraigned.
He ruled that Pinnick and Sanusi not to be joined having been discharged and acquitted on similar charges by a court of concurrent jurisdiction.
One of the NFF officials boasted soon after today’s surprise ruling: “We’re not afraid of going to court because we own the courts.
“It’s just a matter of time before all these unnecessary harassments against us will stop.”
This case, which started in 2018, has suffered several adjournments.
However, the three accounts staff, who have pleaded not guilty, will continue with the trial.
