Defender William Ekong looks set to miss out on the crucial World Cup playoffs against arch-rivals Ghana after he suffered a muscle strain, which his manager described as “not a minor thing”.
Ekong was ever-present at the recent AFCON in Cameroon, but he has since not featured for his Premier League club Watford following the arrival of new boss Roy Hodgson.
His situation has now been worsened by injury, according to his English club.
Hodgson disclosed the central defender is ruled out of action for the “foreseeable future”.
Ekong has been named on a provisional squad for the 2022 World Cup final playoffs against Ghana to be played between March 25 and 29.
