After raising so much hope across the nation, the Falconets today crashed out of the FIFA U20 World Cup in Costa Rica after they lost 2-0 to the Netherlands in the quarterfinal.
The Falconets took their chances well in the group stage to win all three matches, but they were wasteful in front of goal when it mattered most.
The confident-playing Dutch girls opened scoring in the 12th minute, before they doubled their lead in the 33rd minute thanks to poor defending by skipper Tosin Demehin.
The Falconets then chased the game with striker Flourish Sebastine getting into good positions, but her final touch would let her down on several occasions.
A penalty appeal by the Nigerian girls was also not given.
