Taiwo Awoniyi and Adewale Oladoye will feature in the group stage of the newly introduced UEFA Conference League, but fellow Nigeria stars Akinkunmi Amoo and Yusuf Lawal were not that lucky.
Awoniyi’s Union Berlin were held to a 0-0 draw at home by KuPS, but qualified to the group phase after a 4-0 win in Finland last week when the Nigeria striker fired a brace.
Belgian club Gent over turned a 1-0 loss at Polish club Rakow Czectochowa with a 3-0 home win tonight.
Oladoye was a late sub for the victorious Gent.
Amoo’s Hammarby were level 4-4 on aggregate with Basel of Switzerland, who won the eventual penlty shootout 4-3.
Former Golden Eaglets star Amoo was a late sub for Hammarby, but still got among the goals.
In Israel, Maccabi Haifa spanked Neftchi of Azerbaijan 4-0 after both teams drew 3-3 last week.
Yusuf Lawal, who was Man of the Match last week, was strangely not listed for the game tonight.
