Belgian club Union St.Gilloise have revealed they had a chance to sign new sensation Gift Orban ahead of Gent, but could not afford the asking price of the striker’s Norwegian club.
Union SG were recently named as the Belgian club that also had Orban on the radar.
CEO Philippe Bormans confirmed this in Extra Time.
“That’s right, but it could never have come to a transfer. 3.3 million euros, which is outside our budget. We work according to our resources and we are proud of that. We can dream, but we are not going to play for the top 5 every year. This is great, but we don’t want to skip any steps,” said Bormans.
Orban continued his fairy tale run with Gent Wednesday when he banged a remarkable hat-trick for ‘The Buffaloes’ to reach the quarterfinals of the UEFA Conference League.
He has now netted 12 goals in nine appearances in all competitions.
The 20-year-old Orban has said he dreams of soon playing in the Premier League or the Bundesliga.
Should he continue scoring goals like this, there will be interest soon from these top leagues.
