The Super Falcons have done Nigeria proud despite a painful elimination by England in the Round of 16 of the World Cup and they should therefore be celebrated and paid all their dues, according to the FCT FA Chairman, Adam Mouktar Mohammed.
European champions England needed penalties to stop the wonderful run of the Falcons at the World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.
“The deserving team, the Super Falcons, lost,” remarked Mouktar Mohammed after Nigeria fell 4-2 on penalties in Brisbane
“They gave England a very good match; penalty shootout is always a gamble, so they must keep their heads up; take lessons away and improve on any mistakes.
“If we had won this match, we would have rewritten history. But nevertheless, we are full of praise and very proud of the girls.
“The Super Falcons and the technical crew did very well and exhibited an excellent showcase of the Nigerian spirit and quality; this shows that our women’s football has grown in leaps and bounds.”
He continued: “They (Super Falcons) landed in Australia and showed the world they were ready to face any team at the World Cup and go away with something.
“This fine run will act as inspiration and motivation for younger generations of girls aspiring to play professional and for Nigeria.”
Meanwhile, the FCT FA boss has urged the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to clear the team’s outstanding entitlements, which nearly marred their preparation ahead of the World Cup following a much-publicised row with coach Randy Waldrum.
“Now, they (Super Falcons) must be celebrated, honoured and paid all their dues,” he urged.
