The Super Falcons this morning fell 2-0 to 2011 world champions Japan in a friendly played in Kobe.
It was a goalless first half, before the home team scored twice after the restart.
Both teams are preparing for next year’s Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.
Japan took the lead in the 64th minute and doubled their advantage four minutes later through a controversial penalty.
Portugal-based midfielder Christy Ucheibe was forced by injury in the 39th minute and in the second half the hosts took the fight to the nine-time African champions.
