Super Falcons coach Thomas Dennerby has admitted the team have to improve on their finishing for their upcoming Tokyo Olympics qualifier against Cote d’Ivoire after they laboured to pip Algeria 1-0 at home.
Wasteful Nigeria barely sneaked past visiting Algeria in Lagos Tuesday courtesy of a second-half solo goal by skipper Asisat Oshoala to go through to the next round, where they will take on Cote d’Ivoire.
The Falcons advanced 3-0 on aggregate having won the first game in Algeria last week 2-0.
“The defence was okay, but our attacking game was not good enough,” lamented Dennerby after the narrow home win.
“We made it so much difficult than it should be.
“We need to improve for the next game.
“We need to play at 100%, not 90%.”
Next round foes Cote d’Ivoire held hosts Mali to a goalless draw to set up a clash with Nigeria after they won 3-0 at home last week.
Earlier this year, the Falcons stopped hosts Cote d’Ivoire on penalties to win the sub-regional WAFU Cup in Abidjan.
