Super Falcons coach Randy Waldrum has boasted he has “attacking weapons” Asisat Oshoala, Francisca Ordega and Raheedat Ajibade to trouble world champions USA, but they will have to be clinical in front of goal.
The African champions take on world champions and world No 1 USA in a final game of the Summer Series in Texas early Friday morning.
It will be a mountain for the Falcons to climb as they come face-to-face with a team who have not conceded a goal in their last 10 games and are unbeaten in 41 games thus far.
The Americans have also won all three previous meetings with Nigeria.
However, Waldrum said he is confident of a good outing by the Super Falcons against the US.
“We have the players who can do it with Asisat (Oshoala), ‘Franny’ (Ordega) and Rasheedat (Ajibade) we have so many attacking weapons that will create opportunities and it will just be a matter of us to be focused to finish because we won’t get the number of chances we normally have and so we have to take the few that we get,” he said ahead of the high-profile clash.
“We know and respect the US and what they bring to women’s football, but I will expect our players to do nothing short of what they did in the first two matches (of the Summer Series vs Jamaica, Portugal).
“We will compete to the best of our ability and all the way to the very end.
“We will be confident in the way we want to play and we will certainly be doing our best.”
The Texas-born coach also maintained that the Falcons improve their defending to keep out the rampant world champions, who have thus far scored five goals in two games at the invitational tournament.
“(Goalkeeper) was a little rusty and coming off her lines in the last game and if we can get that sorted out, defensively if we could be a little organised in front of her, then I think she is very capable of what they throw at us,” he assured.
