The Super Eagles have asked the fans to pack the MKO Abiola National Stadium in Abuja and cheer them all the way to the 2022 World Cup at the expense of rivals Ghana next month.
Ghana will host the Eagles in the first leg on March 24, before the Black Stars fly down to Abuja for the return leg three days later.
The overall winners of the playoffs will march on to this year’s World Cup in Qatar from November.
Skipper Ahmed Musa said the support of the fans will be crucial in propelling the Eagles to Qatar.
“We just want the NFF to help us get enough fans into the Abuja Stadium for the second leg,” he said during a Zoom meeting involving the players, officials and sports minister Sunday Dare.
“We will go to Ghana and dig our feet and ensure we get a result. We must admit that Ghana also want to qualify and they have a strong team.
“The return leg will be crucial and we are ready for the battle, but we want our fans to be in there cheering us on.”
Coach Augustine Eguavoen said he was impressed with the discipline and commitment of the team at the recent AFCON in Cameroon, adding that the biggest problem for him would be selection as he has a “surplus of good players”.
Eguavoen’s new assistant Emmanuel Amuneke said the Eagles are good enough to fly all the way to the World Cup and will be at their best in both legs of the playoffs.
