The Super Eagles have replaced injured Wilfred Ndidi with PAOK midfielder Anderson Esiti for next month’s friendly against Ukraine.
Nigeria face Ukraine on September 10 in Dnipro.
Ndidi has been nursing a hamstring injury, which has sidelined him at his Premier League club Leicester City.
Powerfully built defensive midfielder Esiti is Ndidi’s direct replacement and he is making a return to the international team after he last featured in 2016.
Russia-based left back Bryan Idowu has also been recalled by Gernot Rohr nine months after he played at the 2018 World Cup.
The match in Ukraine will be the first time both countries are meeting at this level.
