They next take on 2026 World Cup qualifiers Tunisia Saturday.
Semi Ajayi put Nigeria ahead of this Group C opener in the 36th minute, when he headed home off a brilliant delivery by Alex Iwobi.
Tanzania drew level in the 50th minute, when Charles M’Mombwa slotted home a lofted cross beyond the diving goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali.
This was after Osimhen’s effort off a low cross by Jerome Akor was chalked off for offside.
Two minutes later, Ademola Lookman regained the Nigerian lead with a powerful left-footed shot from outside the box
On the hour, the young Tanzanian goalkeeper had to tip for corner a goal-bound shot.
To the credit of Tanzania, they chased for an equaliser.
Coach Eric Chelle then brought on Moses Simon and Fisayo Dele-Bashiru in place of Samuel Chukwueze and Akor, respectively.
Paris FC winger Simon went on to pepper the right-hand side of the Tanzanian defence and several times delivered dangerous balls inside the box of the Taifa Stars of Tanzania that unfortunately were not finished off.
Super Eagles Starting XI (4-4-2) Nwabali – Zaidu, Osayi-Samuel, Calvin Bassey, Ajayi – Ndidi (Captain), Iwobi, Ademola Lookman, Chukwueze (Moses Simon 59) – Osimhen (Onuachu 86), Akor (Fisayo Dele-Bashiru 59)
THIS IS A SUPER FLUKE WINNING. THEIR PERFORMANCE IS NOTHING TO WRITE HOME ABOUT.
ERIC CHELLE SHOULD NOT BE DECIEVED/CARRIED AWAY WITH PAUL ONUACHU CLUB SIDE GOAL SCORING FORM. HE IS EUROPEAN CLUB GOALSCORING DECIEVER.
HE IS SUPER FLOP WHEN IT COME TO AFRICAN FOOTBALL. HIS PATTERN OF PLAY DOESN’T SUIT SUPER EAGLE TEAM.
ERIC CHELLE SHOULD ALLOW EITHER DESSERS OR AKOR-ADAMS TO BE PAIRING WITH OSIHMEN UPFRONT AND FIND BETTER RIGHT & LEFT WINGER AT THE FLANK..
