Man of the Match against AFCON hosts Cote d’Ivoire, Victor Osimhen, has said the Super Eagles made a big statement with the 1-0 win Thursday.
The victory got the Super Eagles AFCON campaign back on track after a disappointing 1-1 draw with Equatorial Guinea in their opening game.
“This was a statement win. It is a big win. It was important to make this statement win,” said Osimhen.
“It feels good and we are happy with this result,
“Respect to the Cote d’Ivoire team, they played a good game also, but we deserved this win more.
“We will continue to build on this momentum.”
He singled out coach Jose Peseiro for special mention after his game plan helped Nigeria shade this tie.
“The coach was very happy. It was important to give him the confidence,” the Napoli striker remarked.
“He has been supporting and defending us in his press conferences.
“I am happy for him too, he deserved this win.”
Osimhen said the ever demanding Nigerian fans keep pushing them to be better.
“Even though we win 12-0, 7-0, they are not satisfied. They push us to be a better team,” he said.
