Fans of the Super Eagles are sharply divided over the outcome of Ghana’s World Cup group game versus Portugal today.
In March, the Black Stars of Ghana sent the Super Eagles packing on the road to the 2022 World Cup.
Nigeria’s arch-rivals will open their Qatar 2022 campaign this morning against Portugal, who last week thrashed the Super Eagles 4-0 in a friendly in Lisbon.
“We want Ghana to avenge the 4-0 we suffered at the hands of Portugal,” said a fan in Suleija, Aminu Abdullahi.
“Let us get behind the Black Stars even though they eliminated us from the World Cup.”
Several fans said that in the absence of the Super Eagles in Qatar, they will be supporting the five African teams at the World Cup in Qatar.
“We have to support our African brothers since cannot do so with the Eagles,” urged Emeka Okeke.
“That is why I will be cheering for Ghana and Cameroon (vs Switzerland) today.”
Another fan, Betty Aduku, said she would rather Portugal thrash Ghana so that will quicken their exit from Qatar 2022.
“I hope Portugal batter Ghana like they did us last week and fast track their early departure from the World Cup,” she said.
“I want Ghana to soon be back home watching the remainder of the World Cup on television as the Super Eagles have been doing.”
Kick-off is 5pm.
