Algeria now stand between the Super Eagles and a place in the semifinals of the 2025 AFCON after they pipped DR Congo courtesy of a late extra-time winner tonight in Rabat.
Algeria’s victory thus denied the Super Eagles a grudge rematch against DRC, who last month beat Nigeria on penalties to advance in the Playoffs for the 2026 World Cup.
Algeria substitute Adil Boulbina let fly from distance with just a minute left on the clock to break the deadlock against the Leopards of DRC.
The Desert Foxes of Algeria stopped Nigeria 2-1 in the semifinal of the 2019 AFCON in Egypt on their way to winning the tournament.
The quarterfinal between Nigeria and Algeria will be played in Marrakesh Saturday.
Kick-off time is 5pm.
The winners of this quarterfinal will take on the winners of the other quarterfinal between hosts Morocco and Cameroon for a place in the final of the 35th AFCON.
