Sports Minister John Enoh has disclosed he plans to meet with coach Jose Peseiro over the disappointing start of the Super Eagles in 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
The Super Eagles had to force 1-1 draws with both lowly Lesotho and Zimbabwe in the first rounds of the World Cup qualifiers.
They are now third in Group C with two points with Rwanda top of the standings on four points, while South Africa are second with three points.
“At some point next week, there is going to be an engagement with the coach,” disclosed the sports minister as a follow-up to a meeting with the leadership of the NFF.
“All of that is trying to respond to the outcome of these matches, especially the World Cup qualifying matches.”
Speculations have been rife that Peseiro could be fired on account of the Eagles poor start to the World Cup qualifiers.
However, the sports minister warned that such a decision should not be driven by emotions particularly as the 2023 AFCON is around the corner.
“As a minister, I am concerned that the national team is not living up to expectations,” he said.
“AFCON is so close that we need to be careful in what decisions we take.”
