Bafana Bafana of South Africa were tonight eliminated from the 2026 World Cup by co-hosts Canada.
A stoppage time winner by Man of the Match Stephen Eustaquio broke millions of South African hearts just when it looked like this Round of 32 tie will drag into extra-time.
Both teams were playing in their first-ever World Cup knockout matches as Canada carved out the better chances, while South Africa’s attack lacked bite.
Bafana Bafana will now join Tunisia, who were eliminated in the first round, to head back home.
Canada will now face the winners of the Round of 32 clash between Morocco and the Netherlands in the Round of 16 of the tournament.
