Bafana Bafana of South Africa are yet to beat the Super Eagles at the AFCON, they don’t have the top stars from Europe like Nigeria and are ranked lower than the Super Eagles, but both coach Hugo Broos and captain Ronwen Williams insist they don’t fear them going into today’s AFCON semifinal.
South Africa and Nigeria will battle for a place in Sunday’s AFCON Final from 6pm at the Stade de la Paix in Bouake.
“We don’t fear,” declared 71-year-old Belgian coach Broos.
“We know they have good players, same was said about Morocco and we won.
“We’re playing against a good team, No 6 (in Africa) in the FIFA Rankings.
“It was also the same situation for us against Morocco with their players also playing abroad in big teams.
He added: “Nigeria are favourites to win the game, but we know in football, it’s not always the favourites who win.
“We’re confident and motivated for us to be in the final again.”
Penalty shootout hero against Cape Verde in the quarterfinal, goalkeeper Williams said they are looking forward to the challenge from Nigeria.
“It will be a tough challenge, but one we’re looking forward to,” he said.
“We’re proud as a team to be in the last four.
“We have come a long way after not many believed in us, but we always believed in ourselves.”
