Former Super Eagles captain Austin ‘Jay Jay’ Okocha has been conferred with a national honour by the Nigerian government.
He has been awarded the Order of the Niger (OON).
The 49-year-old Okocha was a naturally gifted midfielder, who showcased his extravagant ball skills in the Premier League, Bundesliga and the French Ligue 1.
He featured at three World Cups, in 1994, 1998 and 2002.
Napoli striker Victor Osimhen, outgoing Sports minister Sunday Dare, Remo Stars owner Kunle Soname and former NFF president Amaju Pinnick were also awarded national honours by the federal government.
