One of the foreign coaches shortlisted for the Super Eagles top post, Tom Saintfiet, has lamented the losing run by his team Philippines in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
Saintfiet has lost all four World Cup qualifiers the Philippines have played under him.
He said he is disappointed by the poor run, but he is now rebuilding the team with younger players.
“I hate losing, but it was somewhat expected. We played strong teams in Iraq, Vietnam and Indonesia, who have historically been tough opponents for us,” Saintfiet said in an interview published by World Soccer Magazine.
“It’s disappointing, but we’re rebuilding the team, making it younger and more competitive.”
Saintfiet also spoke on the interest from the Super Eagles.
“Countries like Tunisia, Algeria, Cameroon, Nigeria and Ghana have shown interest in my coaching style,” the former Gambia coach said.
“My ultimate goal is to coach at the World Cup, not just to be there, but to achieve great results.
“Being at the World Cup represents the pinnacle of a coach’s career, and I am determined to make a significant impact there, showcasing the skils and potential of the team I lead.”
