Experienced defender Semi Ajayi could well regain his Starting XI spot for tomorrow’s final 2026 World Cup Playoffs tie against DR Congo after serving out a one-match ban.
Ajayi missed Thursday’s 4-1 win over Gabon after he picked up his second booking in the qualifying series against Benin in Uyo last month.
In his absence, Calvin Bassey played alongside youngster Fredrick in the heart of the back four.
Coach Eric Chelle could now move Fredrick to rightback for the bigger and more experienced Ajayi to resume his partnership with Bassey in central defence against the robust-playing DR Congo.
Ajayi is not spectacular, but he has proved to be very effective over the years.
