SCORENigeria Top 5: Anderlecht new star Mukairu steals the show with historic debut winner

It was a splendid weekend of Nigerian goals and top performances across Europe with Anderlecht new signing Paul Mukairu grabbing many milestones courtesy of his superb match winner on his debut – Man of the Match, 1,000^th Anderlecht victory in the Belgian top league.

5.Moses Ogbu

The experienced striker fired a double to take his tally for the season to an impressive 11 goals as Mjallby cruised past Ostersunds 3-0 at home. He has most certainly put him a difficult year in England with Grimsby Town.

4.Cyriel Dessers

He put away the disappointment of being omitted from the Super Eagles squad for the forthcoming AFCON qualifiers against Sierra Leone by netting his third goal of the season for KRC Genk. Interestingly, his effort was thanks to an assist from Eagles teammate Paul Onuachu.

3.Peter Olayinka

The Slavia Prague star not only beat Covid-19, but he came off the bench to score for his Czech club to stun Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen in the UEFA Europa League. He is now third on-form Nigeria star in the competition, behind only Samuel Chukwueze (Villarreal) and Kelechi Iheanacho (Leicester City).

2.Paul Onuachu

The giant centre-forward netted his ninth goal in Belgium for Genk against Eupen to equal his haul of last season. He also assisted for Dessers goal with Genk back firing again after a tough start to the season. He has again been overlooked by the Super Eagles for the qualifiers against Sierra Leone, but looks poised to finish as Goal King in Belgium going by the amazing rate he has been putting them away.

1.Paul Mukairu

The other Paul in the Belgian top league could not have dreamt of a better way to announce his arrival in Belgium than what he showed on his history-making debut for Anderlecht against on-form Royal Antwerp. His second-half curler from the top of the box gave coach Vincent Kompany his first victory against a top club, Man of the Match award, three crucial points for Anderlecht on a day they recorded their 1,000^th league victory since 1974. And to think that he had only trained thrice with the squad before this headline-grabbing debut.
