Taiwo Awoniyi has made the most of his seventh loan spell away from Liverpool with a decent run at Bundesliga outfit Union Berlin last season.
He scored five goals and provided three assists in 21 league appearances this past season.
Like it was in the previous campaign, injury again put a damper to his progress last term.
The 23-year-old striker has since been granted a work permit in the UK, but it is not likely his parent club Liverpool would be his destination in the new season.
He has yet to get his chance at Anfield six years after he joined ‘The Reds’ from Imperial Academy in Nigeria.
Rather he has gone on loan season after season to teams in Germany, Belgium and Holland.
He said he would hope for more stability for him and his young family with a permanent transfer.
“It’s time for you to make yourself permanent (have a permanent contract), we will see how it goes,” Awoniyi said in a recent interview.
Most of the loans (I have gone to) have not been how I wanted them to be because the loaned player has less an advantage than a player of the club.
“You are not given as much opportunity to show what you are capable of.”
Awoniyi has already represented Nigeria at U17, U20 and U23 levels.
He is also on the radar of the Super Eagles and would have been called up for 2021 AFCON qualifiers against Benin and Lesotho in March, but for a thigh muscle injury he suffered playing for Union Berlin in February.
