Former Flying Eagles striker Jerome Akor took France by storm last summer – four goals in his first three games – following his arrival from Norway.

The big centre-forward was leading scorer in the Eliteserien with 15 goals by the time his record transfer from Lillestrom to Ligue 1 club Montpellier was finalised.
Many experts had predicted a move to Belgium first before he would be ready for one of the major leagues in Europe.
The 24-year-old striker joined Montpellier in the summer of 2023 on a four-year contract which runs out in 2027.
The 2023/2024 season was one to cherish for Akor as he overcame the new challenges that Ligue 1 presented.
He scored twice on his debut against Le Havre and then followed up with a goal at Olympique Marseille to get off to a flying start in France.
By October, he was one of the leading scorers in France with seven goals.
However, injury, losing his starting spot and a dip in confidence will affect his superb run and it will not be till April 2024 that he broke his goals drought to score his eighth goal in Ligue 1 against FC Nantes.
Akor has often had to work hard for the overall good of the team and his aerial prowess has not been brought to bear because he does not enjoy crosses from the wingers.
In total, Akor grabbed eight goals and provided an assist in 32 appearances and across 2,264 minutes for his French club, while in the Coupe dé France, he had two goals and an assist in just 19 minutes.
Montpellier placed 12th in the Ligue 1 standings with 41 points from 34 matches, 12 points clear of the drop zone.
The immediate reward of the massive progress he has made is that his Transfermarkt value is now put at 12 Million Euros, a huge rise from four Million Euros on arrival from Norway.
He may have so far been overlooked by the Super Eagles, but as long as he continues to bang in the goals in Ligue 1, it will not be long before he makes his full international debut.
