The 25-year-old right winger posted a most rewarding season after coming back on loan to Croatian club Dinamo Zagreb to win the league and cup double and also help his team reach the last eight of the UEFA Europa League.
He scored five goals in 18 league appearances.
It was in the Europa League that he stole the headlines as he was ranked as the third most outstanding Nigerian star in the competition with 606 points behind Peter Olayinka and eventual tournament winner Samuel Chukwueze.
One of the personal highlights for Atiemwen would be coming off the bench to score the match winner at Russian club Krasnodar for Dinamo Zagreb to stay on course for the Round of 16.
Atiemwen also featured when his club caused one of the biggest upsets of the Europa League last season by ousting star-studded Premier League club Tottenham to reach the last eight of the competition.
Dinamo Zagreb will be eliminated by Villarreal, who went on to win the tournament at the expense of Manchester United.
He has previously played for Locomotive Zagreb, HNK Gorica in Croatia as well as in Turkey for Rizespor and Manisespor.
He has been capped by Nigeria at U23 level and has said he is looking forward to play for the country at full international level.
“Everyone would love to wear the green and white jersey of Nigeria so when it’s time for me I believe I will show myself,” Atiemwen said.
“We have a big population so whatever chance you are given, you must go and do all you can.
“For now, I am just waiting for the right time and right call.”
