‘Hasse’, as he is fondly called in Sweden, has this past season built on what he achieved in the previous campaign when he was named as Sweden Player of the Year to underline his unquestionable class.
This past season, he helped IFK Goteborg to win the Sweden Cup at the expense of traditional rivals Malmo FF, who will eventually be crowned league champions.
It was a most satisfying milestone that will secure them passage to the UEFA Europa League, where they were eliminated in the qualifiers, however.
The 20-year-old midfielder continued to turn heads with assured performances, week in, week out, posting 29 appearances in the league as he fully established himself at the proud club.
His boundless energetic displays in the heart of the midfield will be one of the reasons IFK will in the final weeks of the season stay up in the league after an underwhelming campaign, which led to the dismissal of the head coach and also the sports director.
Alhassan has done enough to attract a transfer to a bigger league as widely predicted after interest from clubs in the Premier League and Belgium.
But it is still baffling that Super Eagles have yet to extend an invitation to the former FC Hearts star who will bring creativity and new energy that they so desperately need.
