Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) have passed a vote of confidence on coach Gernot Rohr after his contract was extended for another two years.
Rohr’s contract was due to run out next month.
NFF president Amaju Pinnick said the federation have full confidence of Rohr to improve the country’s team.
“I’m happy to announce that the @thenff and coach Gernot Rohr have concluded all contractual discussions and he will stay on as coach of the Super Eagles,” Pinnick tweeted.
“We have always had confidence in his abilities and we are confident that the national team can only go higher from here.”
Rohr, 66, took charge of the three-time African champions in 2016.
The former Burkina Faso, Niger and Gabon coach qualified Nigeria to the 2018 World Cup in Russia and the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt, where the team placed third.
Nigerian sports minister Sunday Dare has already said he expects Rohr to work more with players from the domestic league after critics pointed out the coach has failed to give the home-based players a decent run in his team.
“Rohr has to take up higher standard of responsibility. He has an opportunity to prove himself,” Dare said in an interview this week.
“Fundamentally, he has to scout players from the domestic league for the Super Eagles because there are quality players in the league.”
Rohr will also now be expected to reside in Nigeria for at least 10 months of the year, build a strong ‘B’ team for the country and he will now be paid in local currency.
