It can be revealed that Gernot Rohr gave his stamp of approval to Innocent Bonke even before the Malmo midfielder made his Super Eagles debut against Cape Verde Tuesday.
A team official informed SCORENigeria that Rohr called Bonke aside after he shone in training in Lagos and simply told him: “You have to come to stay in my team.”
Bonke and fellow Eagles debutant Kingsley Michael stood in for Wilfred Ndidi and Joe Aribo, who returned to UK after playing against Liberia on Friday in Lagos.
“Both players did well very well, they were professional,” praised Rohr after the 2-1 win in Cape Verde.
“Bonke helped Malmo qualify for the UEFA Champions League and he has been on our scouting list.
“Kingsley started the game in Italy and he showed he can be useful for the national team.”
