NPFL champions Rivers United and runners-up Plateau United face tough routes to the group stage of the CAF Champions League.
Today’s draw has pitched Rivers United against Watanga of Liberia in the preliminary round to be played between September 9-18, but they will then have to play off against defending champions WAC of Morocco to get to the money-spinning group rounds of the competition.
Plateau United, who finished behind Rivers United this past NPFL season, are up against AS Stade Mandji of Gabon in the prelims.
Should they surmount this hurdle, they will have to battle Esperance of Tunisia for a place in the group stage.
The CAF Champions League playoffs are fixed for between October 7 and October 16.
