Rivers United have failed in their quest to feature in the group stage of the CAF Champions League after they lost tonight 1-0 to Al Hilal of Sudan.
They thus crashed out of the competition 2-1 on aggregate.
The Port Harcourt club will now feature in a playoff for a place in the group phase of the CAF Confederation Cup.
Rivers United and Enyimba are the only Nigerian clubs still in the Confederation Cup after Bayelsa United were eliminated by CS Sfaxien of Tunisia in the second round.
NPFL champions Akwa United were also booted out from the Champions League by the first hurdle.
