SCORENigeria can specially reveal that Covid-19 almost derailed the dream of Nigeria qualifying for the U17 AFCON in Morocco after three players and three officials tested positive by the knockout rounds of the qualifying tournament in Lome, Togo.
An official told SCORENigeria: “We give God the glory that despite the positive results that hit the squad, we still qualified for the U17 AFCON.
“It was tough, but we remained focused and resolute.”
The squad returned to Nigeria Tuesday.
Nigeria and Cote d’Ivoire qualified from WAFU B after they reached the final of the qualifying tournament.
Cote d’Ivoire won the competition 3-2 to topple defending champions Nigeria.
They also beat them 1-0 in the group rounds.
The U17 AFCON will be staged in Morocco in July.
