J-League 1 side Sagan Tosun have officially announced the signing of former Enugu Rangers striker Chikeluba Ofoedu.
‘Chico’ has penned a two-year contract at the Japanese side after lengthy contract talks amidst late interests from a horde of clubs in Europe and The Gulf.
Sagan Tosu were delighted to land their 28-year-old long-time target and finally succeeded in committing the former Maccabi Tel Aviv striker to a deal that will keep him at the Japanese side till 2023.
‘Chico’ said he was delighted to sign for the club and looked forward to delivering the goals for his new side when the new season starts on February 27.
“I’m absolutely excited to be part of Sagan Tosu Family,” he told the club’s website.
“A club that has rich history and wealth of experience in the football over the years with a strong fan base.
“I can’t wait to start contributing my best to the team and hopefully we win and achieve so much this season together.”
His representative Joshua King Dada of Double Diamond Sports Agency group told SCORENigeria that even a top side from UAE rang him up just few minutes after he signed the dotted lines for Sagan, offering him something better.
“Chico’s transfer to Sagan Tosu was very interesting because of plenty of interests from clubs,” Dada disclosed.
“Two clubs from Belgium, four teams in Israel and five Turkish teams were all interested.
“You can imagine what we went through before he was signed.
“I’m happy for him and very sure he would deliver the goodies he promised at signing.”
‘Chico’ left Maccabi Tel Aviv after helping the multiple Israeli champions to a double.
He had earlier played in Turkey, where he wore the colours of four clubs.
