Record transfer signing Abdul Abdulmalik has expressed his happiness after he finally completed his move to Swedish club Djurgarden from English fifth division club Boreham Wood.
Winger Abdul Abdulmalik, 23, whose roots are Nigerian, has signed a contract that will last over three years.
“I am very happy, proud and excited to come here to Djurgården and I look forward to playing in front of the supporters at this fine stadium,” Abdulmalik told the Djurgården official website
“An important part for me was the great interest that “Max” (Maximilian Hahn, football manager at Djurgården) showed in me and I heard through him and my agent that he really wants me in Dif. I appreciate the conviction that has existed from Djurgården’s side and it feels very gratifying that everything is clear now.”
Abdulmalik will wear the number 10 shirt at his new club.
“10 is my favorite number, so I’m proud to be offered that shirt and now it’s up to me to deliver,” he said
“I want to contribute and help the team as much as possible and hopefully I can make our audience cheer here at home in the future.”
According to the BBC, the transfer fee is £1.5 million , making Boreham Wood’s sale the largest by a club in the English fifth division. Expressen also has information that the deal is worth £1.7 million.
There have been many moves around Abdul Abdulmalik and, according to Sky, Djurgården initially had several bids rejected.
The winger himself expressed a desire to leave the English fifth division team and in an open letter, Boreham Wood chairman Danny Hunter stated that the 23-year-old refused to train and play.
“There has been a lot said about this transfer, so I’m grateful that everything is clear now, “said the player.
Dif football manager Maximilian Hahn also spoke about the transfer.
“We are very pleased to welcome Abdul to Djurgården. Early in our process, he became our top option for this position, and we are very pleased that he chose our vision over other competing options,” he said.
“On the pitch, Abdul brings exceptional skill, a dynamic offensive threat and reliable production that will add a new and powerful dimension to our offensive game. Off the pitch, his calm and positive personality makes him a perfect fit for our squad dynamics.”
He added: “This signing reflects our strong commitment to building a successful future, both here and now and in the long term. Abdul is an important part of our strategy to identify, recruit and develop players at the highest level, and we really look forward to seeing him make his mark here at Djurgården.”
Abdulmalik has scored 22 goals and assisted 23 times in 91 appearances for Boreham Wood over the years. He has also played for Wealdstone and was part of Millwall youth system. He has also played for England at the youth level.
