US Monastir striker Anthony Okpotu has told SCORENigeria he was able to return to goal scoring business after he was down with injury for over five months.
Okpotu said he was sad while injury lasted
because he watched his team Moroccan team Diffa Hassan El Jadidi dropping
points home and away.
He spoke to SCORENigeria about his targets and
ambition with high-flying US Monastir in this exclusive interview.
SCORENIGERIA: Your club are leading the table ahead of Esperance, Etoile du Sahel, are you looking forward to be champions?
OKPOTU: That’s a different stage. Now we are taking it each game at a time.
You have scored seven goals now, how many goals do you wish to score?
I told Moses Orkuma I’ll score no less than 15, so I’m keeping to my word.
This is your first season at the club and the Tunisian league, how easy was it for you to adapt quickly?
Our coach came with a different mentality, glory be to God the whole team agreed with his mentality and philosophy, the rest is gradually turning to history.
You are injured at some point and out for like five months, what was going through your mind then?
Nothing much, only that at some point I really felt bad because my team DHJ at that time were losing matches away and dropping points at home. I felt bad I could not help.
What is responsible for your instant hit of form after the injury?
I can say it is due to hard work, daily self reminder that I lost last year (2018 season) due to injury and that I need to make up for that.
You have played in Libya, Nigeria, Albania, Morocco and now Tunisia. What do they have in common, and which one you enjoyed most, and why?
They are all good but with different approach, but it’s same football rules everywhere. Moroccan league is ahead of the rest.
How has compatriot and former teammate at Lobi Stars Moses Orkuma helped you settle down at the club?
After God, I’ll say Moses Orkuma is actually behind what’s happening because he has tried to make me feel at home and to hit the ground running.
Thank you.
It’s my pleasure.
